Efficiency, AI tools, and Growth in Legal Tech - Legally Speaking Podcast
At the LegalTechTalk conference held in London in June 2025, Anna Balabina, CFO & co-founder of casepal, had the pleasure of discussing the critical role of efficiency and AI-driven solutions in modern legal practice and the transformative growth happening within the legal technology sector.
The conversation explores how AI serves as an enabler rather than a replacement for legal professionals, addresses the persistent challenge of information overload and repetitive tasks in legal work, and examines the importance of industry networking and collaboration in driving innovation. Anna shares insights on building enterprise-grade AI ecosystems for legal teams and her observations on the rapid evolution of the legal tech landscape.

Welcome to the Legally Speaking podcast recording live from Legal Tech Talk in London. I am joined by name, title, and organization.
Anna: So my name is Anna Balabina. I am the CFO and co-founder of Casepal.
Host: You absolutely are. It's a pleasure to have you on the show. So in one sentence what is one problem you are trying to solve in the world of legal?
Anna: Okay that's an interesting one. Efficiency - that's the one. Time saving is right now the problem because there are more and more documents, more and more information to work with and Casepal is enhancing efficiency for lawyers.
Host: And who doesn't like more efficient systems and processes and technology. So what is one assumption about legal tech you think most people still get wrong?
Anna: That tech can replace lawyers, which it cannot. Tech, AI, and technology are just tools that help lawyers.
Host: Okay. So, they're enablers. They're not necessarily replacers. Okay. Have you been to any sessions at Legal Tech Talk or are you taking part in any sessions or are there any particularly you're interested in hearing?
Anna: No. I'm most of the time just meeting lawyers and networking with employers. So, I'm more just getting to know people, connecting, and getting insights on the industry.
Host: Yeah. And you're getting yourself out there and meeting people. That's what it's all about. New, interesting, exciting people. This year's themes are law and tech, evolution and revolution, access to justice, purpose-driven law, collaboration, and smart compliance. Which of those speaks loudest to you right now? And why?
Anna: I think the first one, right, it was about law and tech and revolution. Yeah, that's the one for me.
Host: And obviously, you're building on that at the moment.
Anna: Yes, of course.
Host: Tell us a little bit more about Casepal.
Anna: So we're making the enterprise-grade AI ecosystem for legal. Basically we're helping lawyers to summarize, draft, translate, analyze documents just within seconds within one connected ecosystem for everything.
Host: Yes, I love that. Okay. And this is obviously legal tech talk. What's been your biggest surprise about Legal Tech Talk 2025?
Anna: How good it is. It's actually surprising for me. It's a really high-quality event and there are a lot of great people and companies here. For example, I met you.
Host: Well, that's what it's all about, right? You get to meet people and see new faces in new places and spaces. I'm here for it. Okay. Let's fast forward 5 years. Let's say we're in 2030. Okay. What do you hope will be finally fixed in law?
Anna: Repetitive tasks. Organization of the documents or trying to find information manually through the things. I think that's going to be solved. That's going to be gone.
Host: Okay. And then what's been your biggest aha moment at legal tech talk thus far?
Anna: I think I saw many more tech companies evolving. In comparison with recent years, I came here and I was like, the industry is actually - the legal tech industry is growing. That was very clear to me.
Host: Absolutely. And I think that's a lot of people have said that, particularly those who came last year, how much bigger it is obviously this year as well. Okay. As someone who's obviously running an organization, why is it important to come to conferences like this? Specifically,
Anna: I think for the purpose of meeting people and getting insights, the ones that you cannot get without talking to people, there is not everything that you can read in books or Google, right? So, there's a lot to learn here, a lot to get to know also about the industry, what lawyers and potential customers think of, and a lot of ideas to get also for the development.
Host: Yeah. No, I'm here for that. Okay, so if people want to know more about Casepal or indeed you, where can they go to find out more? Is there a website? Any social media handles? Feel free to share them.
Anna: We're pretty easy to find. So, it's casepal.co or just on LinkedIn “casepal”.
Host: There we go. As simple as that. Which just leads me to say thanks so much for joining me here live on the Legally Speaking podcast. From all of us for now, over and out.
